Questions readers ask about the CIPP/US Exam Guide

Which exam is this CIPP/US study guide for?

The IAPP Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States exam, known as CIPP/US: the federal framework, the sector statutes, government access, and the states.

Is it current with the CIPP/US body of knowledge?

Yes. It covers version 2.6.1, effective 1 Sept. 2025, checked against the IAPP's published copy on 12 August 2026. If the IAPP shows a newer version, this edition is out of date.

How is the IAPP CIPP/US exam weighted?

By item ranges per domain: The U.S. Privacy Environment 27 to 33, Federal Privacy Laws 15 to 19, Government and Court Access to Private-sector Information 3 to 5, Workplace Privacy 4 to 6, State Privacy Laws 17 to 21.

How many questions are there, and how long is it?

90 multiple-choice questions in 2.5 hours, with an optional 15-minute break, according to the IAPP's exam store page.

What is the CIPP/US pass mark?

300 on a scale of 100 to 500. There is no percentage to aim at.

What do the questions look like?

Multiple choice, sometimes after a scenario. Some have more than one correct answer, and the question says so. Halfway through you are offered a 15-minute break, and once you submit the first half you cannot go back.

Can the exam test anything outside the body of knowledge?

No. The IAPP says no question appears on the exam unless a topic or subtopic in the body of knowledge covers it.

Can I sit it from home, and can I bring this book?

Yes to home, through OnVUE on a personal computer, or at a test center. No to the book: bringing study materials into the exam counts as cheating.

Is this CIPP/US study guide 2026 IAPP approved?

No. The IAPP endorses only its own materials and those of its official training partners, and this book is neither.

Is this a privacy law book or an exam book?

An exam book about US privacy law. It is written from the IAPP's body of knowledge and the primary text of the law it teaches, and pages follow the item ranges.

Is there a CIPP/US practice exam to go with it?

The companion, CIPP/US Practice Questions, gives you 200 four-option questions split by domain share, with a rationale for every question.

Is CIPP/US Exam Guide on sale yet?

Yes. It is on sale on Amazon in paperback and Kindle editions.

How long is it?

20 chapters, 587 pages. Paperback and Kindle.

Who is it for?

Anyone preparing for the examination it covers, and the trainers and librarians supporting them. It assumes you are a working professional paying for the exam yourself and studying in the evenings.

What is it written from?

the IAPP's own published blueprint, and the primary text of the law, standard or framework the exam tests. Not from a summary, not from another preparation book, and not from a model's memory. Each source is listed at the back with the date it was checked.

How is it weighted?

By the exam board's own published blueprint. A domain that carries more of the exam gets more of the book, so you can see where the marks are before deciding where your evenings go.

Will it tell me the pass rate?

No. the IAPP does not publish one for this exam, and this book states nothing it cannot trace.

Is it a substitute for the standard or the law?

No. Where the exam tests a paid standard, you will need your own licensed copy, and the book says so rather than pretending otherwise. Where the law is public, the book teaches from its own text and cites it.

Is Credential Press independent of the IAPP?

Yes, and that cuts both ways. Credential Press is an imprint of Verity AI Ltd. It has no affiliation with the IAPP, no sponsorship from it and no endorsement by it, and it has no inside knowledge of the exam either. Trademarks are used only to identify the examination the book prepares you for.

Are these real exam questions?

No. Every question was written for this book from the published blueprint and the published sources. Anyone selling you real exam content either obtained it without permission or does not have it.

What happens if you get something wrong?

Send the chapter, the edition date and the source that contradicts us to hello@credentialpress.com. Confirmed corrections go into the next revision and the edition date moves forward, so readers can tell which one they have.

Can trainers, teams and libraries buy copies?

Yes, through Amazon: the book page links to its Amazon listing. We do not sell direct, offer bulk discounts or send free desk copies. Individual readers can ask for a free reader copy on the free copies page; we ask once for an honest review, and nothing depends on it. Buying for a team? See credentialpress.com/teams.

I searched for 'cipp/us' and found this. Is it the right book?

It is the Credential Press title for that exam. Read the extent and the sources above and decide: this imprint would rather you bought nothing than bought the wrong thing.
