HRCI weights the exam by functional area: Talent Acquisition 19%, Learning and Development 15%, Compensation and Benefits 17%, Employee Relations 24%, Compliance and Risk Management 25%. Two chapters for each area, in the outline's own order, sized to those weights. Every source named at the back, with the date it was read.

What does the aPHR Exam Guide cover?

  • Every chapter maps to HRCI's 2021 aPHR outline
  • The pass mark is a scaled 500, not a percentage
  • U.S. federal employment law, taught as law

How long is the aPHR Exam Guide?

10 chapters, 307 pages. Paperback and Kindle.

Which Credential Press line is it part of?

Part of the Human resources line. SHRM-CP and PHR: study guides and practice questions for the SHRM and HRCI exams.

What else is in the Human resources line?

Questions readers ask about the aPHR Exam Guide

Is this HRCI aPHR study guide current?

It covers HRCI's aPHR Exam Content Outline that took effect in 2021, and the copyright page prints that edition so you can check it against HRCI's site. Where a federal figure moves, such as the FLSA salary level, the book gives the rule and tells you to check the figure.

How is the aPHR Associate Professional in Human Resources exam scored?

On a scale, and 500 is a pass. HRCI publishes no percentage pass mark, so this book prints none. 25 pretest questions sit among the 65 scored ones and do not count.

How long is the exam?

1 hour 45 minutes, plus 30 minutes of administration time, at a Pearson VUE center or at home through OnVUE.

Do I need HR experience?

No. HRCI requires none for the aPHR. This is an aPHR book human resources newcomers can start with: it teaches from the situations you will meet in a first HR role.

Who is it for?

Anyone comparing aPHR exam test prep books who wants one that teaches the material rather than lists it.

Does it cover U.S. law?

Yes, as law. HRCI holds you to the laws in effect on your exam date, so an hr certification study guide for the aPHR has to teach them properly.

Which question types will I see?

Multiple choice with three or four options, multiple response, fill in the blank, drag and drop, and scenario sets.

Does it cover the 2025 and 2026 changes?

Yes: the revocation of Executive Order 11246 in January 2025, the EEOC's withdrawal of its 2024 harassment guidance in January 2026, and the federal review of the Uniform Guidelines, each with what to check before your exam.

Is it for the PHR too?

No. It is written to the aPHR outline only. The PHR has its own outline, its own weights and an experience requirement.

Is there a practice book?

Yes. aPHR Practice Questions adds 200 questions sized to the same weights, for aPHR exam prep after each chapter.

What do the memory sections hold?

A retrieval hook, the chapter in one line, the cues a stem uses, and what is safe to skip.

Does it reproduce HRCI's material?

No. Unlike some hr certification books, it claims no exam content. It is written from HRCI's published outline, independent of HRCI.

Is aPHR Exam Guide on sale yet?

Yes. It is on sale on Amazon in paperback and Kindle editions.

How long is it?

10 chapters, 307 pages. Paperback and Kindle.

Who is it for?

Anyone preparing for the examination it covers, and the trainers and librarians supporting them. It assumes you are a working professional paying for the exam yourself and studying in the evenings.

What is it written from?

the exam board's own published blueprint, and the primary text of the law, standard or framework the exam tests. Not from a summary, not from another preparation book, and not from a model's memory. Each source is listed at the back with the date it was checked.

How is it weighted?

By the exam board's own published blueprint. A domain that carries more of the exam gets more of the book, so you can see where the marks are before deciding where your evenings go.

Will it tell me the pass rate?

No. the exam board does not publish one for this exam, and this book states nothing it cannot trace.

Is it a substitute for the standard or the law?

No. Where the exam tests a paid standard, you will need your own licensed copy, and the book says so rather than pretending otherwise. Where the law is public, the book teaches from its own text and cites it.

Is Credential Press independent of the exam board?

Yes, and that cuts both ways. Credential Press is an imprint of Verity AI Ltd. It has no affiliation with the exam board, no sponsorship from it and no endorsement by it, and it has no inside knowledge of the exam either. Trademarks are used only to identify the examination the book prepares you for.

Are these real exam questions?

No. Every question was written for this book from the published blueprint and the published sources. Anyone selling you real exam content either obtained it without permission or does not have it.

What happens if you get something wrong?

Send the chapter, the edition date and the source that contradicts us to hello@credentialpress.com. Confirmed corrections go into the next revision and the edition date moves forward, so readers can tell which one they have.

Can trainers, teams and libraries buy copies?

Yes, through Amazon: the book page links to its Amazon listing. We do not sell direct, offer bulk discounts or send free desk copies. Individual readers can ask for a free reader copy on the free copies page; we ask once for an honest review, and nothing depends on it. Buying for a team? See credentialpress.com/teams.
