Questions readers ask about the SHRM-CP Exam Guide

Which exam is this SHRM CP exam prep book for?

The SHRM Certified Professional exam, written to the 2026 SHRM BASK and the 2026 SHRM Certification Handbook, both read in full.

Is this SHRM CP exam prep 2026-2027 material?

Yes. It follows the 2026 BASK, which SHRM uses for both 2026 testing windows: May to mid-July and December to mid-February.

How is the exam scored?

On a scaled score from 120 to 200, and every candidate who passes receives 200. SHRM publishes no raw or percentage pass mark, so this book prints none.

How long is it?

Two independently timed sections of up to 110 minutes each. Alongside the 134 scored questions are 24 unscored field-test items you cannot tell apart. Minutes you leave in the first section do not carry over to the second.

Do I need HR experience?

No. SHRM does not require an HR title, a degree or previous HR experience to apply for the SHRM-CP, and this SHRM CP book assumes none. SHRM does recommend a basic working knowledge of HR.

Who is it for?

Anyone sitting the SHRM-CP who wants an HR certification study guide 2026 candidates can trust on facts: every claim about the exam traces to SHRM's own documents.

Does it reproduce SHRM's material?

No. It is a SHRM certification study guide written from the BASK's published outline in its own words. It does not quote the BASK's proficiency indicators or SHRM's learning system.

Where do I sit it?

At an authorized Prometric testing center, during one of SHRM's two testing windows. SHRM membership is not required to apply.

What are situational judgment items?

A realistic work scenario with several possible actions. More than one may help; only the best one earns credit. Each chapter shows how an HR professional at the operational level chooses it: what to do first, what to escalate, and why a reasonable action falls short.

How much of the exam is about behavior?

About half. SHRM allocates roughly half the items to the three behavioral competency clusters and half to the three HR knowledge domains.

Does it cover AI in HR?

Yes, where the 2026 BASK does: in sourcing and selection, HR technology and the use of data in decisions.

Is there a practice book?

Yes. SHRM-CP Practice Questions pairs with this guide, so the two books work as a human resources certification kit: one teaches, one tests.

Is SHRM-CP Exam Guide on sale yet?

Not yet. It is written, fact-checked, typeset and built, and it goes on sale once its ISBN is assigned. Until then it is free to first readers.

What is it written from?

the exam board's own published blueprint, and the primary text of the law, standard or framework the exam tests. Not from a summary, not from another preparation book, and not from a model's memory. Each source is listed at the back with the date it was checked.

How is it weighted?

By the exam board's own published blueprint. A domain that carries more of the exam gets more of the book, so you can see where the marks are before deciding where your evenings go.

Will it tell me the pass rate?

No. the exam board does not publish one for this exam, and this book states nothing it cannot trace.

Is it a substitute for the standard or the law?

No. Where the exam tests a paid standard, you will need your own licensed copy, and the book says so rather than pretending otherwise. Where the law is public, the book teaches from its own text and cites it.

Is Credential Press independent of the exam board?

Yes, and that cuts both ways. Credential Press is an imprint of Verity AI Ltd. It has no affiliation with the exam board, no sponsorship from it and no endorsement by it, and it has no inside knowledge of the exam either. Trademarks are used only to identify the examination the book prepares you for.

Are these real exam questions?

No. Every question was written for this book from the published blueprint and the published sources. Anyone selling you real exam content either obtained it without permission or does not have it.
