Which law year does the certified payroll professional exam test?

Exams from 5 September 2026 to 3 September 2027 test federal law as of 1 January 2026, and this edition teaches exactly that law year. Mid-year changes are not on that year's exam.

Is it current?

It follows PayrollOrg's CPP Exam Content Outline effective 5 September 2026, and the copyright page prints both dates, so this cpp payroll certification study guide can be checked against PayrollOrg's site.

How long is the exam?

The cpp exam has 190 questions in 4 hours, about 76 seconds each, at a testing center or remotely through OnVUE.

Do I need to memorize the tax tables?

No. PayrollOrg supplies the withholding tables, Publication 1494 and the group-term life table on screen. Like any good cpp certification study guide, this one teaches you to read them and drills the rates PayrollOrg says to know.

Does it cover the 2025 budget law?

Yes. This certified payroll professional book covers the reporting of qualified tips and overtime on the 2026 Form W-2, the new Form 1099-NEC boxes and $2,000 threshold, and the higher dependent care limit.

Who is it for?

Anyone working toward the certified payroll professional credential who wants the rules taught with the arithmetic shown.

Do I qualify to sit it?

PayrollOrg asks for 3 of the last 5 years in payroll, or shorter payroll experience with its listed courses.

Is there a practice book?

Yes. CPP Practice Questions adds 200 questions sized to the same weights, for practice after each chapter.

Which domains carry the most questions?

Core Payroll Concepts at 24% and Calculation of the Paycheck at 22%. PayrollOrg publishes no count per domain, so this book prints the percentages.

What do the memory sections hold?

A retrieval hook, the chapter in one line, the cues a stem uses, and what is safe to skip.

Does it reproduce PayrollOrg's material?

No. It is written from PayrollOrg's published outline and public IRS, SSA and Department of Labor documents, independent of PayrollOrg.

Who is it for?

What is it written from?

the exam board's own published blueprint, and the primary text of the law, standard or framework the exam tests. Not from a summary, not from another preparation book, and not from a model's memory. Each source is listed at the back with the date it was checked.

How is it weighted?

By the exam board's own published blueprint. A domain that carries more of the exam gets more of the book, so you can see where the marks are before deciding where your evenings go.

Will it tell me the pass rate?

No. the exam board does not publish one for this exam, and this book states nothing it cannot trace.

Is it a substitute for the standard or the law?

No. Where the exam tests a paid standard, you will need your own licensed copy, and the book says so rather than pretending otherwise. Where the law is public, the book teaches from its own text and cites it.

Is Credential Press independent of the exam board?

Yes, and that cuts both ways. Credential Press is an imprint of Verity AI Ltd. It has no affiliation with the exam board, no sponsorship from it and no endorsement by it, and it has no inside knowledge of the exam either. Trademarks are used only to identify the examination the book prepares you for.

Are these real exam questions?

No. Every question was written for this book from the published blueprint and the published sources. Anyone selling you real exam content either obtained it without permission or does not have it.
