Questions readers ask about the ISO 27001 Lead Auditor Exam Guide

Is it current with the ISO 27001 Lead Auditor exam?

Yes. It follows PECB's Candidate Handbook version 1.5, checked against PECB's copy on 5 October 2026. BSI and CQI/IRCA run their own exams. Earlier printings of this book were written for PECB's former essay exam.

How is the PECB ISO 27001 Lead Auditor exam scored?

70% of 80 questions. ISMS principles 13, ISMS and ISO/IEC 27001 requirements 8, audit concepts and principles 14, preparing an audit 12, conducting it 18, closing it 7, managing an audit program 8.

How do the questions work?

Each has one correct option and two distractors. Some stand alone. Others follow a scenario you read once and then answer five questions about. PECB says they ask you to apply concepts, analyze problems and evaluate alternatives.

Can I take this book into the open-book exam?

PECB allows a hard copy of ISO/IEC 27001, your training course materials and your course notes. The standard is sold rather than published, so buy your own copy. This book contains no clause text.

Do I need PECB's training course?

No. PECB lists the Lead exam at $1,000 and the certification application at $500. A partner course includes the first attempt, one free retake, the application fee and the first year's maintenance fee.

Do I need information security audit experience to sit it?

Not to sit it. The full Lead Auditor credential asks for five years, two in information security management, and 300 hours of audit activities. With the exam alone, PECB offers the Provisional Auditor credential.

Does it cover ISO 19011?

The exam tests audit concepts and terminology as ISO 19011 describes them, and the book teaches those. It does not reproduce ISO 19011, which is also sold. The chapters on preparing an audit draw on the audit team roles it defines.

Can I sit it from home?

Yes, through the PECB Exams app, supervised remotely on camera, or on paper where a PECB partner runs the course.

What happens if I fail?

PECB emails a list of the domains where you did poorly, and there is no limit on retakes. A partner course fee includes one free retake.

Is ISO 27001 Lead Auditor Exam Guide on sale yet?

Yes. It is on sale on Amazon in paperback and Kindle editions.

How long is it?

14 chapters, 440 pages. Paperback and Kindle.

Who is it for?

Anyone preparing for the examination it covers, and the trainers and librarians supporting them. It assumes you are a working professional paying for the exam yourself and studying in the evenings.

What is it written from?

PECB's own published blueprint, and the primary text of the law, standard or framework the exam tests. Not from a summary, not from another preparation book, and not from a model's memory. Each source is listed at the back with the date it was checked.

How is it weighted?

By the exam board's own published blueprint. A domain that carries more of the exam gets more of the book, so you can see where the marks are before deciding where your evenings go.

Will it tell me the pass rate?

No. PECB does not publish one for this exam, and this book states nothing it cannot trace.

Is it a substitute for the standard or the law?

No. Where the exam tests a paid standard, you will need your own licensed copy, and the book says so rather than pretending otherwise. Where the law is public, the book teaches from its own text and cites it.

Is Credential Press independent of PECB?

Yes, and that cuts both ways. Credential Press is an imprint of Verity AI Ltd. It has no affiliation with PECB, no sponsorship from it and no endorsement by it, and it has no inside knowledge of the exam either. Trademarks are used only to identify the examination the book prepares you for.

Are these real exam questions?

No. Every question was written for this book from the published blueprint and the published sources. Anyone selling you real exam content either obtained it without permission or does not have it.

What happens if you get something wrong?

Send the chapter, the edition date and the source that contradicts us to hello@credentialpress.com. Confirmed corrections go into the next revision and the edition date moves forward, so readers can tell which one they have.

Can trainers, teams and libraries buy copies?

Yes, through Amazon: the book page links to its Amazon listing. We do not sell direct, offer bulk discounts or send free desk copies. Individual readers can ask for a free reader copy on the free copies page; we ask once for an honest review, and nothing depends on it. Buying for a team? See credentialpress.com/teams.

I searched for 'iso 27001 lead auditor' and found this. Is it the right book?
